Starting July 7, join us every Tuesday in July for a hands-on DJ class series designed to take you from beginner to advanced. Learn to mix, scratch, curate playlists, and more—no experience necessary!

To prepare for class, please download Serato DJ Lite found at this link: https://serato.com/dj/lite. Please import all of the music on your laptop into the program and analyze the files. This can take a few hours! Please bring your laptop as well as a set of headphones with a standard 1/8″ headphone jack.

July 7 – DJ Basics

Get started with an overview of DJ equipment, software, terminology, audio setup, and music theory. Learn basic scratching techniques, audio cueing, and foundational skills to help you better understand music structure and prepare for future mixing.

July 14 – Intermediate Mixing

Build on your skills by learning how to mix songs using faders, EQs, cue points, loops, and effects. Explore song selection, timing, and creative mixing techniques while developing your own unique style behind the decks.

July 21 – Comparative Techniques for Genres

Explore mixing techniques across genres including house, EDM, hip-hop, R&B, reggaeton, and dancehall. Learn genre-specific transitions, scratching techniques, and advanced tools that help create distinctive sounds across different styles of music.

July 28 – Comparative Techniques for Genres Part 2

Continue exploring mixing techniques across a variety of genres including funk, rock, disco, oldies, hip-hop, and electronic music. Learn advanced beatmatching, creative transitions, open-format mixing strategies, and professional techniques for blending different musical styles seamlessly.
